Since the time I have quit coffee, I have resorted to consuming a cup of flavored milk, or occasionally if I’m not in cue for a cup of milk, my morning could start off with tea as well. By flavored milk, I mean to say, a warm badam or a malted milk. Consumption of sugar is ruled out during mornings; somehow my mind doesn’t approve of that. Of-course, that doesn’t mean I do not add anything to sweeten up the early morning drink. I make sure there is a tea-spoon of honey in it. The same goes with Vinay as well. He has quit coffee for good. This is how my Husband and I start off our day. Malted milk with honey, an ultimate and most divine form of a morning :) Yes, we do consume coffee whilst there is a sore and itchy throat that needs to be treated.
Honey is the most purest form of sweetener obtained from a bee-hive. When I learnt the medicinal properties of honey I wanted to make it a part of our daily food intake. Honey is at its best when consumed with warm milk. An itchy throat could be cured by consuming a teaspoon of honey. When I was a little girl, I remember my parents giving me bitter medicines by mashing them into powder and mixing them in honey. Honey gets useful in many such situations.
Initially, i.e. just before I got into the avocation of food writing, I wasn’t really specific about the genuineness of canned food or food that came in jars. In my spare time I kept looking into books and certain facts online about quality checking of food items.
Honey, that comes out a jar for consumers, in general, has to be tested for purity first. Buying honey from a branded organization is one solution. In another method, that is a practical method, one can detect and bring out the genuineness of honey. I happened to note this method from a TV show. The method follows.
Things you will need
A Transparent bowl
4 tbsp of Water
1 tsp of Honey
Step 1: Take a bowl
Step 2: Add 4 tbsp of water to the bowl
Step 3: To this bowl of water add 1 tsp of honey.
Step 4: If honey dissolves in water, it is not pure honey, else if the honey sinks to the bottom of the bowl, it is pure and genuine honey.
